Edinburgh first thing can be surprisingly quiet – gives you a chance to admire the views. At the height of the Festival things get pretty busy and every pub, club, coffee shop and biscuit tin becomes a venue. Fair enough.
But with so many venues and so many people the whole place has turned into an ashtray. The entrance of venue after venue first thing in the morning is a rather unpleasant site. Discarded cigarette ends litter the streets a symptom of smokers being pushed outside. It means that in places like the High Street the whole place could qualify for the Guiness Book of Records entry…. The largest ashtray in the world.
First thing in the morning it’s great to admire the views – just don’t look down.
