Vision, Mission and Values – An NCR legacy

I attended a coaching session last night by Action Coach – it reminded me about the need to have a simple line when it came to motivating the team and explaining what you are all about to customers.

The Vision statement (to be the best). This Mission (to be the best by…).  The Values (don’t forget the customer comes first, my colleagues are people etc etc).

NCR drove this approach and their values into me back in the late 80′s and through the 90′s – it worked. It provided a strong point of reference and even though at times it seemed a bit “overplayed” it definitely worked. It worked so well I still assume that everyone has the same values even though it’s been many years since I darkened NCR’s doorstep.

The software development activities and our business activities are still framed by what I/we learned at NCR a decade ago – thats quite an achievement and quite a legacy.
